Greeting in the Name of our Lord Jesus, who provides protection in His Shelter & Shadow.
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalms 91:1 ESV)
You can never over-use this verse, and for that matter - all other promises in the Bible - to claim upon the protection of God in your life! While your mask will wear out and is bounded by an expiry date, the protection of God is eternal and consistent to His people! God’s protection does not have an expiry date! He said, “ He will never leave you nor forsake you”! (Deut 31:6) Be assured, whether it’s COVID-19 or any other challenge in life, our Almighty God’s shelter and shadow are always there for you!
While it is easy to understand the physical shelter being an indispensable facility to run to during a war or inclement weathers to be shielded from physical harm, I was pondering how a shadow can be a source of protection.
Shadow isn’t something physical but you know it’s there because you can feel the protective effect, especially if it is a hot sunny day. God protects us over issues that are not physical in nature as well. He protects us from emotional upheaval arising from fear, worries, depressions and other tense situations in life by releasing His peace that passes all understanding when we come to Him. (Phil 4:7). We are also protected against the unseen world of principalities & powers of darkness.
Shadow also changes its position. It is not that God’s protection is not consistent, but sometimes, to appropriate His protection, we need to move with Him in the seasons of life. You move with His shadow. We see how God led Israel by the pillar of cloud in the wilderness, which was like a shadow. At times, God doesn’t want us to remain stationary, but to move to new milestones of His will. So don’t stubbornly remain in the hot sun when God’s shadow moves - that may signal a need for movements in your life.
You will probably realise that if you follow the movement of a shadow faithfully, you will eventually end up mee-ng or come under the very Owner of that Shadow! God always wants to draw us to Himself by extending His shadow of protec-on - and as we follow it along, we get into a journey of in-macy with Him, experiencing the warmth of His tangible presence & embrace as in Psalms 91:4 - “He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.” Throughout this Convid-19 situa-on, have we not heard of numerous tes-monies of people taking a new interest in their spiritual lives, and many, having found healing and protec-on from the pandemic, openly acknowledged God as their Deliverer & Saviour!
Then the word “dwell” tells of a home, of a rela-onship. It is not a “touch & go” experience to look for a shelter - like a bus stop, but it is finding a permanent dwelling place that can be a permanent shelter - a rela-onship with the Most High! God wants to protect us as sons & daughters in His house, not as random strangers at a bus stop!
Let’s be God’s Shadow chasers and get others in that chase too, and together, we will reach His permanent Shelter of Protec-on! Amen!
